The Fort Mill Boys Basketball team has started their season off on the right foot by bringing home a trophy from the Buford Invitational. This is the second year in a row the Jackets have been crowned champions.

Fort Mill breezed by the first two games, beating Andrew Jackson 66-32, and then Lakewood 59-36. Against Lakewood, senior Jaquan Dupree scored 17 points and senior Rion Heriot followed with another 15 points. The final game was the test for the boys. Fort Mill faced the Lancaster Bruins and squeezed out a win in the last 4 seconds. Lancaster is ranked fifth in Class 4A while Fort Mill is ranked third in Class 3A. The final score was 64-63 Fort Mill. “Lancaster was very difficult to play and very difficult to defend,” head coach, Bailey Jackson, said. “Our guys didn’t give up.”

The Jackets trailed the whole game and just could not seem to break the Bruins until the end of the fourth quarter. Senior point guard Steven Auslander tied the game up at 59 as he pulled up and hit a three-pointer of his own. Dupree was then assisted by junior Jon Brown to end the game. Brown split the middle with a pass to Dupree who scored a lay-up while getting fouled. Dupree finished the game with the foul shot and had a total of 20 points. Also, Heriot scored an additional 11 points to help the Jackets pull out a victory and be crowned champions.

Free throw shooting kept Fort Mill in the game, going 12 for 12 in just the first half. The boys are looking good this season and have also played against South Point High School and ended up winning by double digits. Their record now is 4-0. Expect another great season out of these boys. They take on the Clover Eagles tonight December 3 at eight o’clock. Come out and support our undefeated boys.
