When it comes to MTV’s Video Music Awards, nothing is unexpected. Under these bright lights, anything can happen. Some of the most memorable moments in music history took place on the stage of the VMAs. One of the most unforgettable incidents was Kayne West’s interruption to Taylor Swift’s speech last year. Chelsea Handler from the late-night show Chelsea Lately has been confirmed as this year’s host.

On August 3 the list of nominees was released to the public.  A few of the categories for awards are best female video, best male video, best new artist, video of the year, and many more. The list of nominees include popular artists such as Ke$ha, Beyoncé, Carrie Underwood, Justin Beiber, Usher, and the list goes on.

However, none of these stars have anything on Lady Gaga, who has been nominated for 13 awards. Not only is she in the lead for this year, but also in VMA history. Gaga has been nominated for Video of the Year not just one time, but twice, for her videos “Bad Romance” and “Telephone.” This makes her the first female artist ever to be nominated for two videos in the same year. Not far behind her is Eminem, who has been nominated for eight awards. He is also up for Video of the Year with his “Not Afraid” video.

Taking home a famous moonman trophy has always been the main focus of the VMAs, however, that’s not all. There is also a long list of big-name performers who will be showing off the talent they were recognized for in 2010. Some of these performers include Justin Beiber, Selena Gomez, Paramore, Ke$ha, Eminem, Drake, Kayne West, Taylor Swift, and many more.

The competition to win is higher than ever this year. With all the famous faces in the music world and the long list of great performers, this is one show you won’t want to miss. So tune into MTV this Sunday at 9 p.m. to see who will go home with the most moon men this year.
