Little do the students at Fort Mill High School know, they are walking the halls with a young guitar sensation. John Haldenwang, better known as Jake, is 15-years-old and moved to Fort Mill from Southern California five years ago. He has grown up around music because his father was into it, and Jake looked up to Eric Clapton. “I have always been into music, and one day I knew for sure it was my passion,” Haldenwang said.

At the age of 11 he began to learn how to play the guitar, and he started singing and writing his own songs two years ago. Since then, Haldenwang has been making his way up and down the east coast, showing his talents wherever possible. When he gets on that stage and begins singing, your mouth will drop with his amazing voice.

Not only does Haldenwang play the guitar, but he also plays the bass and the drums. He has been playing nationally with his band, called the Jake Haldenwang Band, all the way from Florida to New York. There are four members of the band, and he is the youngest of them all.

“I would like to continue my music career for the rest of my life, and play in bigger and bigger gigs,” Haldenwang said, with a smile on his face. About a month and a half ago, Haldenwang and his band played in Florida at the Sarasota Blues Fest with about 10,000 fans watching.

Although he is making his way up in the world as a sophomore, Jake plans to attend college. He would like to get a scholarship to Berkley. He would also like to share his talents with our school in some of the upcoming musicals.

If you are interested in listening to this performer, he already has a CD out called Tell the Truth. The plan is to also have one coming out in the spring. Watch this young guitar sensation grow as his dreams come true and he makes Fort Mill proud.
