It’s common for us girls to ooh and ah at the gorgeous makeup styles  that celebs bring to the red carpet, but the truth is, you can achieve their glamorous looks at home with just a few simple steps. One of the most common looks a girl attempts to pull off is the dramatic purple eye makeup look. All it takes is five to ten minutes of your time, and a couple of supplies which you can find at nearly any store.

First off, you will need purple and black eye shadow. If you are on a budget like me, I prefer Maybelline’s eye shadow because it’s cheap, long-wearing, and the colors are always stunning. They also come packed with an applicator which is great for your eyelid, but a brush is more suited for your crease because this area is essential to blend which is impossible to do with those cheap little applicators. For the purple, it’s best to use Maybelline’s Expert Wear Eye Shadow in Amethyst (105). For the black eye shadow, you do not have to be so particular; any black eye shadow would work. The same principle applies to the black eyeliner you will need. It’s important that you do not use liquid eyeliner for this look, for it can be messy and painful! Instead, use a stick or pencil eyeliner. To top off your look, use solid black mascara. I prefer MAC Cosmetics Haute and Naughty Lash because it comes with two different applicators which allows me to achieve a high dramatic look. It’s a bit pricey at $19 per tube, but it is definitely worth the few extra bucks.

Once you have the proper materials, it is time to apply. Make sure all prior makeup is removed for the best results. Apply black eyeliner to your lower and upper waterline, and then proceed to apply the Amethyst eye shadow so it’s covering your entire eyelid. Next take your black eye shadow and apply it to the middle of your crease all the way to your outer crease, the blend it in with the color on your lid. Blending is a must when using multiple shadow colors. It is also important to ensure that your eye shadow is highly pigmented. This is a dramatic look, which calls for dramatic color. Sometimes you might need to layer your shadow for the best results. After all that is done, apply mascara evenly to all lashes. Remember, for this look, your lashes must be dramatic, so do not be afraid to go big and bold!

Using the steps above, you can look just as dazzling as the celebs without the heavy prices and the long hours of application. This is perfect for going out, hanging out, or anytime you want to dress to impress.
