This year the Country Music Association held its 45th annual Country Music Awards on November 9 on ABC. Many new artists debuted at the awards as well as old, loved ones that no one can forget. Some of these new artists were Lady Antebellum, Mac McAnally, Thompson Square and The Band Perry. Admired, praised artists that got to show off their new songs and reminisce with their old ones were Jason Aldean, Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Sugarland. This year’s CMA Awards was definitely one to remember for years to come.

One of the stars that got her second big time nomination and win at the CMAs was Taylor Swift. This is her second year in a row going home with the title of Entertainer of the Year. “To win it twice is like the coolest thing ever happening to me twice,” Swift said backstage. “I’m freaking out right now.” Along with this win, other female artists dominated the country music awards like Miranda Lambert, Kimberly Perry of the Band Perry, as well as female led groups such as Lady Antebellum and Sugarland.

Although country music is still led mainly by men, women are in the process of picking it up and taking over. “When Taylor won entertainer I secretly sang (Beyonce’s) ‘who runs the world? Girls’ to Blake,” Lambert said after she and her husband, Blake Shelton, repeated as male and female vocalist of the year. “I’m just really happy that females are starting to be very prominent and it is the female singer-songwriter.”

Other winners of this year were Jason Aldean and Kelly Clarkson for Musical Event of the Year for their duet in “Don’t You Wanna Stay” as well as Aldean taking home the Album of the Year for My Kinda Party. The Band Perry also won Single of the Year and Song of the Year for “If I Die Young.” Guest star singers included Gregg Allman who sang “Georgia on my Mind” with the Zac Brown Band and Natasha Bedingfield who sang “Easy” with Rascal Flatts.

“This is the Oscars of the music business, the CMAs,” Lionel Richie expressed. Many people made history at this year’s CMAs like Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert being the second married couple to win male and female vocalists of the year in the same year. Get ready for all the artists’ new releases this coming year and be ready to get blown away by all the new songs and videos.
