One might ask how to wear her beloved summer skirts during the harsh winter weather. Tights might very well be one of the best winter accessories known to man. In this new and confusing world of women’s hosiery, one might also become confused as to how to wear the varied tights available.
Simple opaque tights in dark or neutral colors might be worn as more of a professional look while big bold and patterned tights may be worn during night time activities. Tights can also be worn under a pair of pants as an extra layer of protection against the cold. While most women like to plan their tights accordingly with their shoes (i.e. sheer tights paired with light colored shoes), I would suggest wearing dark colored tights with light colored shoes. Sure, tights and shoes of the same genre can provide a cleaner look, but why not provide contrast? Why not make the tights stand out or the shoes stand out? Is there truly a reason to blend?
Leggings fall into an entirely different category. Leggings can offer warmth and can often serve as a substitute for pants. They can be worn with long t-shirts, mini dresses and mid-length skirts. Leggings can also be paired with stacked socks and/or boots. As long as the back and front are covered, one is sure to rock her leggings. Knowing the shape of one’s body is the key towards looking for the perfect pair of tights. If looking for the maximal slimming effects, one should stay clear from boldly colored tights.
A beginner often wears her tights/leggings with a tunic top and a pair of moccasins. The intermediate tights/leggings wearer begins to wear her tights/leggings with a tight dress, a pair of boots and/or a funky headband. Rather than wearing a standard black pair of tights/leggings, the expert wears flowered tights/leggings and masters her tights/leggings technique by pairing them with a chunky pair of heels and a leather jacket.
Leggings and tights are merely a fun way to show off one’s legs while keeping warm for the ruthless realities of winter. This accessory can be an appropriate look for any woman but should never be used as the main component of an outfit. I’m not looking for moccasins, I’m looking for beginners. Fish nets it is.
