Homecoming is a tradition that Seniors wait for all throughout of high school. What is tradition? Tradition is a customary and characteristic manner or method. This means that something is done over and over the same way and is changed.
The tradition of homecoming is that there is a football game where Senior girls are asked by the senior football players to be on the homecoming court. They chose a girl in order to help her win the title of homecoming queen. Let me repeat that please: the BOYS are supposed to ask the GIRLS!
What is it with all the girls “claiming” a football player for themselves? By doing this, all the girls are limiting the ability and chance for other girls to be asked by a player. Every Senior girl wants to be on the homecoming court and wishes that one of the football players would ask her. Most do not even get the chance to talk to one of the players before another girl has already claimed them. This is not the right way to go about being on homecoming court, ladies.
Wouldn’t it mean more if a player actually asked you because you were that one girl he wanted to escort out of all the 200 other girls in the Senior class? I know I would be ecstatic if I was one of the girls that was chosen, as would so many other ladies. I feel like so many girls are insecure about themselves that they will not get asked to homecoming that they think they need to go against the tradition to “claim” a player for them.
The homecoming court and how it was chosen has been so unfair this year and has broken tradition. Senior Dallion Armeni said how she felt about the way homecoming court was decided, “I think it was unfair for the girls to choose players before they the guys had a chance to ask anyone.”
With all of this being said, to all the future Senior class girls, make sure to stay with the tradition and give every girl the same chance to be chosen for homecoming court.
