Many of the most popular country artists were nominated for multiple awards for this year’s Country Music Association Awards. The nominations were spread among established artists such as Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift, as well as to newcomers The Band Perry and Zac Brown. These nominations took place in Nashville, Tennessee this past Tuesday.
Big nominees this year are Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley and Taylor Swift, who all lead with five nominations each and will all compete for the genre’s top prize. Once again, Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will host the annual CMA Awards together for the fourth time on November 9, broadcasting live on ABC. Along with all the other nominees for various awards, Keith Urban was the fifth nominee for the top prize of Entertainer of the Year, which was announced in Nashville and on ABCs news show Good Morning America.
In previous years of the CMAs, it appeared that many of the nominations were on songs from the previous year that were not not as recent as people think they should have been. But this year the nominations of Aldean and Shelton seemed to be right on target and timely in according to release dates. Aldean was sleeping during most of the nomination announcements and missed the nominations of him for top entertainer and male vocalist. He said his wife made sure he got the news though because she was screaming. Aldean commented on the nominations by saying, “Okay, Cool! I didn’t realize that I had been nominated for the five awards until I starting getting text messages congratulating me on the nominations. I thought it was just that one my wife had been freaking out about.”
Along with Aldean, up for CMA Male Vocalist are Paisley, Shelton, Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney. This isn’t all Aldean is up for though. He has also been nominated for Album of the Year (My Kinda Party), Single of the Year (Don’t You Wanna Stay, with Kelly Clarkson), and Musical Event of the Year. In response to all the nominations and attention Aldean has gotten this past year, he said, “Obviously I felt like we had a great year with the success of the album and the singles and the tour.”
Other nominees include Swift, Underwood, Sara Evans, Miranda Lambert, and Martina McBride, all up for Top Female Vocalist. The Band Perry and Zac Brown Band each earned four nominations. This includes top songwriter nods for Kimberly Perry,Zac Brown and Coy Bowles. Make sure to tune in to ABC on November 9 to see who all will win their nominations and to find out who else were nominees this year.
