Fort Mill High School’s Cheerleading Team at went to the State Competition this Saturday, November 20, after a fifth place finish at Upper-State. “I think we did the best we have ever done in my two years of coaching,” Ashley Rawls, the head coach, said. That was the first opportunity at the State title the girls have had in 17 years.

They worked hard each and every day to get to State. The competition took place at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville, and Rawls expected nothing less than a first place victory. The girls ended up not placing at State, but they put on a great performance. One stunt fell in their routine, and they were given a safety violation during their pyramid. Overall, the girls should keep their heads held high for a wonderful performance. Their biggest competition in state was Chapin High School, and they scored a 287. The goal was to “wow” the judges and the audience by performing to their best of their potential and perfecting their new dance.

The girls worked very hard to prepare for the big day trying to perfect every weakness. There best competitions they had this season were at Clover and at Nation Ford. There best score they had all year was a 242 and at State they got a 237.

The girls have really worked hard this season and the preparation for State was nothing different. “We would have never made it as far as we did if the girls did not work hard,” Rawls commented. The girls have come a long way this season and they have made Fort Mill High School proud by doing something that has not been done in 17 years. Congratulate the girls on their success and on a spectacular season.
