The Varsity Boys’ Basketball team held tryouts on November 1. Bailey Jackson, the head coach, plans to keep 13 or 14 players, and nine of them are seniors. Jackson has coached for 14 years and brought the Yellow Jackets a State Championship during the season of ’06-’07.

This year, nothing will change. Jackson plans to win the region and take his boys to the State Championship game. In order to do that, he must beat the main competition in our region, York. There are a lot of returning players, and it will be a big test for the Fort Mill Yellow Jackets. Also, some competition once the playoffs start will be with Daniel and Greer.

Some weaknesses that Jackson believes the boys can improve on is taking care of the ball and having a stronger defense. “These guys are very experienced. They have played a lot of games and a lot of important games,” Jackson said. Their offense should be their strong point this year, and there should not be a problem putting points up on the board. Jackson expects the boys to practice and play hard every day.

The cross town rivalry game will be here on January 21, when Fort Mill travels to Nation Ford. “Nation Ford should be good this year, but I am expecting a win against them,” Jackson said.

The boys are looking forward for the season to start with their first scrimmage on November 11 against Buford at home. “I am excited to see these boys do this year; it is a great group of guys,” Jackson said. The season is about to begin, and the student body of Fort Mill High needs to get ready to watch the possible State Champions play.
