For every sport, there is always an athlete that excels. For golf at Fort Mill High School, the star athlete is Senior Sara Allen. This 17-year-old moved from Charleston, South Carolina at the age of nine to Fort Mill and has played golf since middle school. She has been on the golf team for five years. At a younger age, Allen’s father would take her and her brother out to the Fort Mill Golf Course, and that is where she picked up a true skill for the game.

Allen has a list of awards and achievements that goes on and on. She won region in the season of 2010, played in the Fort Mill Women’s Golf Championship this summer, was asked to play with the Spring Cup Team this summer and finished top 15 in the Salisbury Tournament in May. This region champion is most proud about her top 15 finish. “I scored my best tournament scores ever, with 75 on the first day and 80 on the second,” Allen said. A goal that she set for herself was to win region by the end of senior year, and she did just that, plus qualified for the state championships.

One thing that Allen really enjoys about playing golf is getting the chance to travel all around South Carolina to all the different courses. She is committed to attend Coker College in Hartsville, South Carolina on a scholarship. Allen plans to major in communications and become a journalist. With the grades that she has, this should not be a problem at all. “I am excited for the whole college experience and living on my own,” Allen said.

Not only does this senior practice all the time for the sport that she loves, but she is also the Editor-in-Chief of Fort Mill High School’s newspaper, the Loudspeaker. Allen is a well-rounded individual that Fort Mill is proud to call their own. Be sure to congratulate this athlete on her scholarship and all of her other achievements.
