The stress of getting into a college is stressful enough without having to deal with the additional stress of how you are going to afford to pay for it. Today there are a variety of scholarships and student loans that students can use to help them make their financial requirements. Luckily for the students at Fort Mill High School, our school website now has a page filled with scholarship applications.

Getting scholarships for college is extremely important. A lot of people who are involved in extracurricular activities get many opportunities to earn scholarships in those types of programs. There are also scholarships given to students who make good SAT scores. These scholarships are harder to get, but there have been students from our very own school who have earned it. Two of the most common scholarships are Life and Hope. For the Life, Scholarship you have to meet two of the three requirements, which are, have at least a 3.0 GPA,  have at least an 1100 on the SAT or be in the top 30 percent of your graduating class.

The Hope Scholarship is similar to Life, but it is for students going to a two year school instead of a four year. The only requirement to earn this scholarship is a cumulative 3.0 GPA. If you are a student who is interested in starting at a smaller school and maybe transferring to larger one, you can apply for the Hope Scholarship. Most schools in the state allow students with the Hope Scholarship to gain Life scholarship after transferring to a four year school, as long as you maintain a 3.0 GPA and meet their required credit hours your first year.

Located on the school website are many different scholarships that are available. For students who don’t meet the requirements of the more common scholarships, go check out the other scholarships that are available. The website provides details about each of them and along with online applications, so it’s easy to apply. The website shows all of the standards that the students must meet; some of them are easier and some extremely difficult. There are special scholarships on the site that only apply to students in our county that the town of Fort Mill has provided.
