The Cross Country team at Fort Mill High School has been strong for years, and this year is no exception. The boys have lost a lot of seniors from last year along with their number one runner. There are only two returning runners for our boys’ team, but our girls are stronger than ever. Together the boys and girls have won all their dual meets in which they have participated.

The girls placed second in the Coaches Classic out of all the 3A schools. The boys did not do as well but seem to be improving as they practice. Practicing five days a week, the team is ready for each and every meet. They just faced York and Indian Land Tuesday, September 28, and came out with a victory. The girls got a perfect score, and the boys were almost perfect.

Goals for this season are simple. The girls have a possibility to win state this year and would like to make it happen. “Our biggest competition in 3A is Daniel High School in Greenville,” Meredith Kilburn, a junior and the number one runner for Fort Mill, said. The boys also have the state meet in mind and would like to make the top five. Since the boys are so young, there is always room for improvement, and they are ready to prove that they are still strong. “Another team goal we have is for everyone to better their time this year,” Kilburn said.

Fort Mill’s Cross Country team has a big meet this Saturday, October 2 in Charlotte. The Wendy’s Invitational is one of the biggest meets along the East coast, and this is a perfect place to prove what Fort Mill is made of. Also, they will be racing against Nation Ford and other teams for the second time on Tuesday, October 19 at the Region 4-AAA Meet. This race will be held at the Greenway in Fort Mill.

The team this year gets along great with no problems on or off the trails. Fort Mill is expecting a strong finish out of both the boys and the girls this year. Be sure to come out and support these runners as they run their way to victory for Fort Mill High School.
